Abstract

ABSTRACT Dyah Rahayu Mutiara. The Value of Character Education in The Novel “The Little Girl at The Window” By Tetsuko Kuroyanagi. Thesis. Pacitan: STKIP PGRI Pacitan, 2020. The focus of this research is character education delivered by the principal, Mr. Kobayashi. The research subject is a novel entitled Totto-chan, Little Girl in a Window by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi. Where in this novel has character education values that can be learned and can build good character for elementary school age children. Mr. Kobayashi was a driving force in the Japanese education world before the Second World War. Where it blends the balance of body and mind in perfect harmony. From there Mr. Kobayashi gave the name of the school with the name Tomoe Gakuen which means harmonizing growth and development between the body and mind of children in elementary school. The method used was two types of data, namely data sources and data analysis. First, the data source is data collection by taking notes, reading, and reviewing journals that support research. Second, data analysis is a way of analyzing data collection by processing the data itself in processed ways such as (1) identification, (2) classification, and (3) descriptions to process data analysis. In researching, the researcher found several values of character education that are suitable and can be applied by Indonesia, namely, (1) religious, (2) moral, (3) leadership, (4) social, (5) clever, (6) brave, (7) energetics, (8) curious, (9) loved, and (10) wise. But the researcher focus on four points that are suitable for analysis and which can be adapted in Indonesia, such as; (a) religious, (b) moral, (c) leadership and, (d) social. The results of this study indicate several conclusions. First, the most valuable character education. Second, the difference in the value of character education for Japan and Indonesia. Third, the researcher discusses the reasons the readers understand about character education so that children become a proud. From this study, researcher believe that in educating or cultivating good character in children not only in the family but also by teachers and educators as well as school principals.
