Abstract

ABSTRACT Zaning Laila Wijayani, 1688203020. An Analyis of Illocutionary Acts in The Lion King movie, Thesis Education Study Program, Teacher Training, and Education College, STKIP PGRI Pacitan, 2020. Advisor: 1. Saptanto Hari Wibawa, S.S., M.Hum. 2. Agung Budi Kurniawan, M.Pd This research aims to identify the types and the function of illocutionary acts in The Lion King movie by Jon Favreau because there are many illocutionary acts in the movie and the factor that affecting the illocutionary by using SPEAKING theory. This research used descriptive qualitative method. Researcher used instruments such as field note, movie, and transcripts. The main data source of the research is The Lion King 2019 movie by Jon Favreau. The steps to collect the data in the research were: watching The Lion King movie, reading the movie script, identification of the illocutionary acts, reducing the data, classifying into the table, display the data, validity the data and analyze the data. From the result of types of illocutionary acts that have been analyzed can be concluded that there are five types of illocutionary acts in the research namely representatives, directives, commissives, expressives, and declaratives. The sum of data to be analyzed were 139. Representative consists of tell, agreeing, stating fact, explain, reporting, asserting, stating opinion, informing, convincing, and remind. Directive consists of suggesting, commanding, questioning, requesting, forbidding, inviting, and warning. Commissive consists of offering, promising, refusing, threatening, and advise. Declarative consists of fired, declare, pronounce, and punishment. Expressives consist of stating fear, greeting, complimenting, stating dislike, disappointed, apologizing, stating worry, stating pleasure, stating surprise, stating praise, stating sadness, condoling, stating like, thanking, and stating regard. Based on the research, the most dominants kind of illocutionary acts is directive commanding (15.83%). The functions of illocutionary acts that found are collaborative, competitive, convivial, and conflictive. Moreover, the factor that affecting the illocutionary can be explained based on setting, participants, ends, the acts, tone, the instruments, and the norms of interaction and interpretation based on the character that used in the movie.
