Abstract

The learning activeness is always a problem in supporting the smooth learning process. The low level of learning activeness can obstruct learning objectives, especially in the Differential Equation subject. Therefore, this research aimed at identifying mathematics students' learning activeness including some factors which cause low activeness. To uncover the problem, a qualitative descriptive with a case study method is employed. While the subjects of this research were students of mathematics education study program STKIP PGRI Pacitan Semester IV of the Academic Year 2017/2018 obtained from purposive sampling technique. Further; the data sources were obtained from the results of questionnaires, and interviews. The data validation is fulfilled by triangulation of techniques and sources. Then, the analysis of the data used is the Miles and Huberman model. The research findings reveal that:(1) the highest percentage is less active student (51.7%), subsequently followed by the category of inactive student (41.4%) and the lowest percentage is in the active student category (5.9%); (2) the internal factors which cause the result are absorption, low students' motivation and self-confidence, poor time management, lack of learning, lack of prerequisite subject understanding, disgrace of asking questions and inactiveness of taking notes. While the external factor is the teaching method of the lecturer; the difficulty of the course paradigm, the corrupted learning concentration caused by a part-time job as well as inappropriate study programs choice.
