Abstract
ABSTRACT Denisa Mumtazun Nabiila. AN ANALYSIS OF THE MAIN CHARACTER’S CONFLICT IN THE LAND OF FIVE TOWERS NOVEL BY AHMAD FUADI. Thesis. Pacitan: STKIP PGRI Pacitan, 2024 The research aims to: (1) analyze the characterization of the main characters in the novel “The Land of Five Towers” by Ahmad Fuadi; (2) examine the psychological conflicts of the main character in the novel; and (3) investigate how these psychological conflicts contribute to the story’s plot. The research employs qualitative research methods, as outlined by Bogdan and Biklen (cited in Wibawa, 2022:36). Qualitative research is characterized by using descriptive data, including both spoken and written words and observed behaviors. This research specifically utilizes data in words, phrases, clauses, and sentences. Document analysis is the primary method of data collection. Data analysis techniques include classifying the data, aligning it with relevant theories, interpreting the findings, and drawing conclusions. The research concludes that the characterization of Alif in “The Land of Five Towers” depicts him as a determined and persistent individual who loves his hometown. He is easily influenced by circumstances, obedient, respectful, brave, responsible, enthusiastic, enjoys challenges, is a careful planner, and is an idealist with an interest in history and journalism. The main character’s psychological conflict is defined by an internal battle within himself. This conflict is analyzed using Sigmund Freud’s theory and categorized according to the id, ego, and superego. The novel’s plot is structured with exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and denouement. Keywords: Characterization, Psychological Conflict, Plot.
