Abstract

Rika Nurcahyani. DEVELOPING WRITESPHERE APPLICATION TO TEACH WRITING SKILL TO THE 8TH GRADERS AT SMP NEGERI 1 ARJOSARI IN THE 2023/2024 ACADEMIC YEAR. Thesis. Pacitan: STKIP PGRI Pacitan, 2024. This research aims to know the development and feasibility of the WriteSphere application designed to improve writing skills among 8th graders at SMPN 1 Arjosari. The background of this research highlights the importance of writing as a fundamental skill in language acquisition, which is often overlooked in traditional educational settings. The application is intended to address common challenges faced by students; such as lack of motivation and difficulty for expressing ideas in writing, by providing an engaging and interactive platform for learning. The research employs the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) as its methodological framework. During the analysis phase, students’ needs and existing writing challenges were identified through surveys and interviews. The design phase focused on creating the application’s interface and content, focusing on user-friendliness and educational effectiveness. In the development phase, the application was built and subjected to iterative testing and refinement. The implementation phase involved deploying WriteSphere in classroom settings, while the evaluation phase assessed its impact on students’ writing skills through pre-and post-tests, along with user feedback. The results of this research indicate that the WriteSphere application significantly improved students’ writing skills, with an overall feasibility improvement rate of 88.3%. Both students and teachers provided positive feedback, praising the application for its ease of use and effectiveness in making the learning process more enjoyable and less intimidating. This research concludes that integrating technology, such as the WriteSphere application, can be a valuable tool in overcoming the challenges of teaching writing skills in secondary education, ultimately leading to better learning outcomes and increased student engagement.
