Abstract

Ilham Zhanuar Zahro. A STUDY OF WOMEN'S POWER IN PATRIARCHY ON NAWAL EL SAADAWI'S NOVEL WOMEN AT POINT ZERO.Thesis. Pacitan: STKIP PGRI Pacitan, 2024. The research aims: 1) to understand the concept of women's power within the context of patriarchy society as portrayed in Nawal El Saadawi's novel Women at Point Zero. 2) to examine how Nawal El Saadawi represents women's power through the character of Firdaus in her novel. 3) to explore how the patriarchy social structure influences the expression of women's power as depicted in the novel.             This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach to describe the phenomena that occur systematically, factually, and accurately. The data of this research specifically utilizes data in the form of words, phrases, and sentences. The primary data source is Nawal El Saadawi's novel Women at Point Zero, the novel used is a new edition published in 2007 by Zed Book, 128 pages, translated by Sherif Hetata, and distributed by Palgrave Macmillan, New York.  While, the secondary data sources are some ebooks, articles, and ejournals. The technique of collecting data is document or content analysis. The instruments used are human instruments, and field notes and reading record checklists as tools to facilitate conducting research. The technique of collecting data consists of reading a novel carefully, understanding the content of the novel, and underlying the data about women`s power in the novel. The techniques for analyzing data include classified data, interpreting the data, and drawing conclusions. Findings and discussion show the results as follows: the concept of women's power is portrayed by the main character, Firdaus. Firdaus shows that women's power can be achieved by those who make determined decisions and remain strong in adversity or injustice. The women`s power represented by Nawal El Saadawi through the main character Firdaus, shows her resilience and power to challenge and resist patriarchy oppression by repeatedly reaffirming her decision to control and assert her independence and her autonomy over her life. This is to claim that women's empowerment can still be achieved as they are against and reject patriarchal oppression. Nawal El Saadawi highlights that patriarchy systematically controls and oppresses women to restrain them or commodify them. However, the novel Women at Point Zero suggests that women can resist and claim their lives back, even when the patriarchy suppresses them.
