Abstract

ABSTRACT Siska Nurma Yuniar. The Use of Clustering Technique to Improve Students’ Achievement in Writing Descriptive Text to The Tenth Graders of SMKN Kebonagung Pacitan in the Academic Year of 2022/2023. Thesis. Pacitan: STKIP PGRI Pacitan, 2023. This research aimed to know whether the clustering technique can improve students’ achievement in writing descriptive text to the tenth graders of SMK N Kebonagung Pacitan in the Academic Year of 2022/2023. And also, it is to describe their responses to the implementation of clustering technique in writing descriptive text. This Classroom Action Research was conducted in 2 cycles. The research subjects were 20 students of X APHP 2 SMK N Kebonagung Pacitan. The data was obtained from the students’ tests, observations, and questionnaire results. The results of the test were analyzed using the quantitative method, while the results of the observation and questionnaire were analyzed using the qualitative method. Individually, the indicator of success was the average score of students who had reached the standard of completeness (75). The indicator of success was when minimum 85% of students reached the standards of completeness. Then, the students’ responses were also used as indicators of the success of this research. As a result, the students got an average score of 67.00 on the pre-test, 72.10 on the post-test I, and 79.35 on the post-test II. Based on the observations, the students’ knowledge improved by 10%, the active students improved by 5%, the independence improved by 10%, and the number of students who faced problems decreased by 10%. Then, from the questionnaire, 20% of respondents strongly agreed, 75% agreed, and 5% disagreed that they understood the definition, the language features, and the structure of the descriptive text. Then, 20% of respondents strongly agreed, 75% agreed, and 5% disagreed that they could apply the clustering technique easily. Next, 50% of the respondents strongly agreed and 50% agreed that they feel easy to convey ideas in writing descriptive text by applying the clustering technique.
