Abstract

Irma Sintia. Improving Students' Writing Skills Through The Use of Cooperative Learning Strategy: The Round Robin Method. S-1 Thesis. Pacitan: STKIP PGRI Pacitan, 2024" The objectives of this study were to determine whether Cooperative Learning Strategy type Round Robin could improve the students’ writing skills in the tenth grade of automotive class at SMKN Ngadirojo Pacitan in the academic year 2023/2024 and to know the students' perceptions towards the application of Round Robin in the tenth grade of automotive class at SMKN Ngadirojo Pacitan in the academic year 2023/2024. This research was conducted using Classroom Action Research (CAR) in the tenth grade of automotive class at SMKN Ngadirojo Pacitan in the academic year 2023/2024. The study participants consisted of 28 students in the tenth grade of automotive class. The research focused on students’ English-writing skills and their perceptions of the Round Robin implementation. The Round Robin was used to increase the student’s writing skills. The data collection techniques used included writiing tests, questionnaires, and observation. The data-collection instruments included a writing test guide, questionnaire sheets, and observation sheets. Quantitative and qualitative descriptive analyses were used for data analysis. This research was conducted in three cycles, with each cycle consisting of four stages, namely: Planning, Acting, Observing, and Reflecting. The results of this research were the Round Robin could increase the student's writing skills in the tenth grade of automotive class at SMKN Ngadirojo Pacitan in the academic year 2023/2024 and students perceived that the application of the Round Robin method in the tenth grade of automotive class at SMKN Ngadirojo Pacitan in the academic year 2023/2024 are easy to understand, useful, motivating and improve their writing skill. After implementing the Round Robin, the students' writing skills improved. In the Pre-Test, the average score of the students was 49,64. On the writing test test in Cycle I, the average score of the students was 60,36. The average score in Cycle II was 70,71 and in Cycle III, it further increased to 76,43. The difference in the students' scores between the pre-test and post-test was 26,79. It can be concluded that The Round Robin could increase the student's writing skills in the tenth grade of automotive class at SMKN Ngadirojo Pacitan in the academic year 2023/2024 and students perceived that the application of the Round Robin method in the tenth grade of automotive class at SMKN Ngadirojo Pacitan were easy to understand, useful and helpful, convincing, motivating, and improve their writing skill.
