Abstract
The aims of this research are: (1) to collect the data about students’ ability in writing of descriptive text during online learning of X IPS 2 SMA N Tulakan academic year 2020/2021; (2) to analyze the difficulties faced by students of X IPS 2 SMA N Tulakan academic year 2020/2021 in writing descriptive text during online learning; (3) to analyze the most cases viewed from the source in students of X IPS 2 SMA N Tulakan academic year 2020/2021 in writing descriptive text; (4) to recommend solution to the problem considering teacher strategy during English online learning. The researcher used qualitative research namely critical instance case study. The collecting of the data are test and questionnaire. The technique of analyzing data used Spradley Analysis which consists of domain analysis, taxonomy analysis, componential analysis, cultural themes. The result of the research showed that students’ ability in writing descriptive text is low. There are four indicators that still low such as grammar, organization, mechanics, and word choice. In the questionnaire, the most difficulties that suffered by the students are word choice, grammar, vocabulary, and organization. In the writing test, the most cases suffered by the female students in all indicators. Some solutions can be recommended such as creating interactive learning, combining some platforms in delivering material, and use soft skill approach.
