Abstract

ABSTRACT Wahyu Mitasari. THE ENHANCEMENT OF STUDENTS’ SPEAKING SKILL WITH COLTS TYPE LEARNING CELL FOR CLASS SEVEN B SMPIT AR-RAHMAH PACITAN IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2022/2023. Thesis. English Education Study Program. STKIP PGRI Pacitan. The objectives of this study were to determine whether CoLTs type Learning Cell could improve the students’ speaking skills in class seven B SMPIT AR-Rahmah Pacitan in the academic year 2022/2023 and to know the students' perceptions towards the implementation of Learning Cell technique in class seven B at SMPIT AR-Rahmah in the academic year 2022/2023. This research was conducted using Classroom Action Research (CAR) in class seven B SMPIT Ar-Rahmah Pacitan in the academic year 2022/2023. The study participants consisted of 33 students in Class Seven B. The research focused on students’ English-speaking skills and their perceptions of the Learning Cell Technique implementation. The Learning Cell technique was used to enhance the student’s speaking skills. The data collection techniques used included speaking tests, questionnaires, interviews, and observations. The data-collection instruments included a speaking test guide, questionnaire sheets, interview sheets, and observation sheets. Quantitative and qualitative descriptive analyses were used for data analysis. This research was conducted in three cycles, with each cycle consisting of four stages, namely: Planning, Acting, Observing, and Reflecting. The results of this research were the Learning Cell technique could enhance the student's speaking skills in class seven B at SMPIT Ar-Rahmah Pacitan in the academic year 2022/2023 and students perceived that the application of the Learning Cell method in class seven B SMPIT Ar-Rahmah Pacitan were easy to understand and apply, useful and helpful, convincing, motivating, and applicable. After implementing the Learning Cell technique, the students' speaking skills improved. In the Pre-Test, the average score of the students was 39,1. On the speaking test in Cycle I, the average score of the students was 45,3. The average score in Cycle II was 61,4 and in Cycle III, it further increased to 68,3. The difference in the students' scores between the pre-test and post-test was 29,2. In the Post-Test, 45% of students speaking skills were categorized as "Fair" and 55% of students were categorized as "Good". It can be concluded that the Learning Cell Technique could enhance the student's speaking skills in class seven B SMPIT Ar-Rahmah Pacitan in the academic year 2022/2023 and students perceived that the application of the Learning Cell method in class seven B SMPIT Ar-Rahmah Pacitan were easy to understand and apply, useful and helpful, convincing, motivating, and applicable.
